As you can see from the above table, the advalrem property taxes you pay to the City of Commerce is the smallest portion of your annual ad valorem tax bill. In fact, for 2007 it is roughly 3.73% of the total millage you pay. 33.77% of your taxes are paid to Jackson County, while 62.50% is paid to the Commerce City Schools.
As such, if you live in a $250,000 house with a 40% taxable value of $100,000, you would pay approximately $2,840.00 (without any consideration given for the Georgia Taxpayer Relief Grant allowed as a homestead exemption) in ad valorem property taxes. Of that $106.00 would go to the City of Commerce, $959.00 to Jackson County, and $1,775.00 to the Commerce City Schools.
For at least 10 years running, the City of Commerce is the least expensive city in Jackson County in which to reside due to our extremely low millage rate. In total, the City of Commerce only collects $165,000 a year in property taxes.
