2008 City Lights Downtown Festival
Saturday, June 28th
The City of Commerce invites you to participate in the 2008 City Lights Downtown Festival. As you know, our reorganized downtwon festival has grown over the past two years and we know that it is our vendors who provide the true flavor - sometimes literally and sometimes figuratively.
After the festival last year, Mark Beardsley, the Editor of The Commerce News, openly praised the 2007 City Lights Downtown Festival in the July 11th edition of The Commerce News as, "a huge success. Those who attended praised it, the vendors made money, Spencer Park was full, the music and food were excellent."
We appreciate you and your help in making the 2007 City Lights Downtown Festival such a success. As you saw, the festival grows each year. Following the afternoon lag, the crowd rebuilt and our vendors did huge business. The 2007 Festival boasted an estimated crowd of 7,500 leisure travelers throughout the day and night. One barbeque booth was still selling food at midnight last year.
This year we hope you will join us in making the 2008 City Lights Downtown Festival an even bigger success. We have expanded upon our application form in order to provide you more information upfront about the festival and help answer any questions you have. You will find a copy of this year's vendor application below.
This year's festival will take place solely in Historic Downtown Commerce on June 28, 2008. We strive to offer a varied assortment of high-quality items and delicious foods. 2007 City Lights Downtown Festival Recap
The 2007 City Lights Downtown Festival welcomed thousands of visitors to our historic downtown for food, fun, music and much more. The event began with the debut of the Downtown Farmers Market, which hosted 7 vendors carrying everything from corn and cantaloupes to tomatoes , okra and bell peppers. The City Lights Star Chase 5K Road Race brought 189 runners from all across Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina into downtown for the 3.1 mile race. The overall winner, Chase Eldredge, clocked in at 16.56. The arts and crafts vendors enjoyed a steady stream of customers all day long with increased crowds in the morning and early evening. The inaugural winner f the BBQ Cook-Off was Iron Pig Barbecue, located in Jefferson, GA. The Stars n' Cars Hot Rod & Antique Car Show produced over 115 entries and gave auto enthusiasts much to honk about. The Human Society's petting zoo and Your Event Moonwalk's Kids Zone were very well-received by children and adults alike. The downtown stage offered free Bluegrass, Folk, Southern/Classic Rock, Country and Blues all day long. The success of this year's festival is largely attributable to the number of volunteers whose tireless commitment deserves our applause.
