Councilman Bob Sosebee
Bob Sosebee, 59, is in his 25th year as Ward 4 Councilmember. He is a past president of the Georgia Municipal Association, and past chairman of the State Main Street Advisory Board, is past president of the Georgia Downtown Development Association and former chairman of the GMA Employee Benefits Services, which manages the GMA pension fund and insurance funds for almost 500 member GMA cities.
Sosebee served as a member of the board of directors of the Department of Community Affairs from 199-2004, a group that administers a variety of state programs, including the community development block grants. He was also a member of the board of directors of the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and was appointed in 1999 by Governor Roy Barnes to the statewide Rural Development Council. Sosebee is currently serving his 3rd term as a Director of the Municipal Electric Authority of Georgia (MEAG).
He was inducted into the Georgia Municipal Association Hall of Fame in June of 1999 and was a winner of the 1996 Community Service Award for the 10th District of Georgia.
A native of Toccoa, Sosebee has been married for 38 years to the former Donna Tolbert. They live on Dogwood Trail and have two grown, married children, Heather and Chad. Heather is married to Clay Hobbs, and the couple have twin daughters, Carsen & Grace. Chad is married to Brooke Sosebee.
Sosebee attended Furman University on a football scholarship and graduated from the University of Georgia with a major in finance. He is a member and elder of Commerce Presbyterian Church, is active in the Commerce Kiwanis Club and the Commerce Booster Club, Deer Trail Country Club. He is chairman of the Commerce Downtown Development Authority.
Sosebee is associated with Century 21 Community Realty in Commerce.
