Industrial Development in a City on the Right Track!

With two outstanding industrial parks, Commerce is poised to grow.

The newly developed Commerce / I-85 Industrial Park is a 423.26 acre site developed by Rooker & Associates, a proven leader nationwide in industrial development.  Currently the site has a 962,280 square foot speculative building.  Yes, that is 22.09 acres under roof!  The development has access to Interstate 85, the rail road, and all city utilities.

With its 114-acre industrial park, Commerce has all of the room that your company needs to grow for years to come. The park features:
  • Ownership and development by Jackson County Industrial Development Authority
  • Availability of all utilities
  • Service by Norfolk Southern Railway
  • Industrial Revenue Bond capacity
More land is also available along the Highway 441 by-pass corridor for retail and industrial sites.

Great Accessibility

With its prime location on I-85, Commerce is a business hub for four states--Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina. By car, truck, or plane, transportation in and out of Commerce is a snap for both people and goods.
  • Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport is an easy hour-and-a-half drive away
  • Recently renovated Jackson County Airport is five miles from Commerce
  • U.S. Hwy. 441 and GA Hwy. 98 serve the city
  • Truck lines such as ABF Freight, Brown, Phil-MART, and Overnight have terminals in the county

People With Experience

Commerce and the surrounding area boast an impressive work force. In the Jackson County trade area, 31,254 people are already employed in the manufacturing field--over a quarter of all those employed in industry. The many benefits of hiring here include:
  • Georgia's "Quick Start" Industrial Training Program which helps our industries by offering pre-hire training
  • Athens Vocational-Technical School is nearby
  • There are no unionized manufacturers in the county

The Most for Your Money

The city and county want you to come here and prosper. That's why we help you as much as we can when it comes to financial matters.
2007 Commerce and City School Proposed Property Tax Rates

City Tax:                                                              1.000
School Tax:                                                     17.750

Total Rate:                                     18.750

For at least ten years in a row, Commerce has the lowest combined property tax rate in Jackson County.  One reason for this is that Commerce operates its own utility system and puts income from those sources back into general city operations, thus keeping its city tax rate unusually low.  Commerce intends to levy only 1.000 mills of ad valorem taxes for its operations for 2007.
