The Commerce Fire Department is proud of the I.S.O. Class 4 insurance rating that the city enjoys within the city limits. The department is manned by thirty trained volunteer firefighters of which seven are National Registry EMTs. The department is led by the Chief, one Asst. Chief, two Captains, two Lieutenants, and a training coordinator. The department's equipment consists of three class A pumpers (2-1,250 gpm, 1-1,000 gpm), one seventy-five foot ladder truck with a 1,500 gpm pump, two fully equipped service trucks, one 1,500 gallon tanker, one 300 gallon four-wheel drive brush truck, and one command vehicle.

With a yearly budget of $384,405, the Commerce Fire Department uses all of its funds for state of the art equipment that will allow the firefighters to perform their duties in the quickest and safest environment possible. The fire and prevention and education programs that the department sponsored have actually lowered the number of actual fire calls over the past years. The department also has part-time firefighters that are on call during the day at selected times. These firefighters are responsible for keeping records up to date, including but not limited to, hose testing, hydrant testing, and pre-fire plans.

Also located in the Commerce Fire Station is a rescue truck from the Jackson County Emergency Services. This truck is manned by volunteer EMTs and first responders to respond to the various emergency calls in East Jackson County.
