Commerce Cleanup

  • Commerce will be hosting the Annual Curbside Clean Up for residents only the week of October 15-October 19. This is an annual event for residents in Commerce to clean out the garage or attic and dispose of unwanted yard waste. This is residential only, not commercial waste. Please do not place items on the curb until the dates of the event. Visit the Keep Kackson County Beautiful Event to dispose of items the City will not accept.

Emergency Notifications

 

The City of Commerce is preparing for the upcoming tropical storm to come through the area.   We do anticipate gusty winds and rain. Please secure all outdoor items and furniture that can be damaged.  Plans are in place for Commerce Fire Department, Commerce Police Department , Public Works, and Utility Crews to respond.   Please call 911 for any emergencies. You may call City Hall at 706-335-3164 to report utility outages or non-emergency events.  It is always recommended that residents prepare for any power outages by having fresh batteries for flashlights, a weather radio, and extra bottled water. Please stay safe and be aware of the needs of your neighbors.  Help share this information to all Commerce area residents and friends.  The City will post updates on our website www.commercega.org, social media, and local radio station WJJC am if they are needed.

NOTICE OF APPLICATION FOR A NATIONAL POLLUTANT DISCHARGE ELIMINATION SYSTEM PERMIT TO DISCHARGE TREATED WASTEWATER INTO THE WATERS OF THE STATE OF GEORGIA.

The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) is considering the modification of an NPDES permit for the following applicant, subject to specific pollutant limitations and special conditions:

City of Commerce, Post Office Box 348, Commerce, GA 30529, NPDES Permit No. GA0026247, for the Northside Water Pollution Control Plant located at 578 W.E. King Road, Commerce, Georgia 30529. The permit is being modified to include effluent limitations and monitoring requirements for a new satellite pretreatment facility.

Only the conditions subject to modification are open to public comment. Persons wishing to comment upon or object to the proposed determinations are invited to submit same in writing to the EPD address below, or via e-mail at EPDcomments@dnr.ga.gov, no later than thirty (30) days after this notification. Ifyou choose to e-mail your comments, please be sure to include the words "NPDES permit modification: City of Commerce - Northside WPCP - GA0026247 (Jackson County)" in the subject line to ensure that your comments will be forwarded to the correct staff. All comments received prior to or on that date will be considered in the formulation of final determinations for these permits. A public hearing may be held where the EPD Director finds a significant degree of public interest in a proposed permit or group of permits. Additional information regarding public hearing procedures is available by writing the Environmental Protection Division.
